Orientation and Mobility Specialist Services

The government authority in Georgia is seeking an Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the Exceptional Students Program. This specialist will provide orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments to support safe and independent travel within school and community environments. The agency requires the specialist to train students in using assistive devices and mobility tools, including white canes, handheld telescopes, sensory devices, and other approved supports. The scope of work includes teaching environmental awareness concepts, route planning, spatial orientation, sensory interpretation, crowd navigation, and self-advocacy skills. The specialist must support students in managing mobility-related frustrations, stress, and situational challenges while ensuring student safety during all instructional and travel-related activities. To perform these duties, the specialist must maintain the physical capability to safely accompany and support students throughout school environments, including stairs, hallways, outdoor areas, and community-based instruction settings. The agency requires the specialist to conduct functional assessments and orientation and mobility evaluations to determine student needs and service recommendations. The specialist must also maintain accurate service logs, attendance records, visit documentation, and student progress reports. Although the work performance is designated as offsite, the specialist must be physically capable of accompanying students in local school and community environments. Eligibility is restricted to onshore organizations based in the United States. The agency is looking for proposals to determine the budget for these services.
