Prototyping Intersection Safety Systems

The District Department of Transportation in Washington, DC is seeking vendors to develop and test prototyping intersection safety systems. The agency is trying to solve the problem of intersection safety by creating systems that can predict conflicts and identify unsafe conditions. The scope of work is divided into two phases, beginning with the development and testing of differentiable prototypes in an access-controlled roadway intersection closed testbed. For the second phase, the agency requires the refinement and deployment of promising prototypes in multiple real-world intersections. These deployed systems will initially operate for observation only to collect data, predict conflicts, and anticipate unsafe conditions. If the gathered evidence demonstrates acceptable risk, the agency may introduce real-time mitigating actions in the operational state. The agency anticipates awarding up to three contracts for the first phase of the project. Only onshore United States organizations are eligible to submit proposals for this opportunity. The performance of the requested work will take place offsite rather than at the agency facilities. The agency is currently looking for proposals and has not disclosed a specific budget.
