Crossing Guard Services

The City of Santa Maria, California, is seeking a vendor to provide professional school crossing guard services to ensure student safety at designated street crossings. The agency requires a partner to manage the entire lifecycle of the crossing guard program, including recruitment, pre-employment screening, hiring, training, supervision, and discipline. The selected provider must ensure all guards are at least eighteen years of age, possess the ability to read, write, and speak English, and have no convictions for felonies, violent crimes, or crimes against children, with a preference for bilingual or multilingual candidates. The scope of work requires guards to be trained in accordance with the California Vehicle Code, the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and recognized school crossing guard best practices. Guards must focus on creating safe crossing opportunities for students using stop paddles and hand signals while minimizing traffic delays and avoiding unnecessary vehicle congestion. Additionally, guards must maintain order among assembled children and report any traffic violations or ignored instructions to the local Police Department.
