Public Defender Services

The City of Boulder City, Nevada, requires a vendor to provide public defender services to ensure all indigent criminal defendants receive effective legal representation at no cost. The city must resolve the challenge of providing constitutionally mandated legal counsel to defendants who are financially unable to retain private attorneys and are charged under municipal ordinances. The selected provider will represent these defendants from the time of court appointment or screening through trial, sentencing, and post-conviction review. The scope of work covers criminal misdemeanor cases occurring within the city limits. The public defender must comply with the rules of professional conduct and all other applicable court rules at all times. Additionally, the defender must attempt to contact assigned clients within forty-eight hours of assignment, excluding weekends, and must review and discuss each case with the defendant prior to the first court appearance post-arraignment. Eligibility is restricted to onshore United States organizations. The performance of the contract work will take place offsite. The city is establishing a contract period of two years for these services. The city is looking for proposals to determine the budget for this procurement.
