The government authority in Washington, DC is seeking a vendor to provide services for the Micro-Grants Food Security Program. This program assists agricultural agencies or departments in eligible states and territories to increase the quantity and quality of locally grown food in food-insecure communities. The agency aims to solve food insecurity in areas that import significant quantities of food by competitively distributing subawards for small-scale gardening, herding, and livestock operations. The scope of work requires supporting eligible agricultural agencies or departments in distributing these competitive subawards. The project covers creating or expanding avenues for the sale of local food commodities, specialty crops, and meats, as well as increasing the availability of fresh, nutritious food. Funded activities include purchasing gardening tools, equipment, soil, seeds, plants, canning equipment, refrigeration, and shipping items necessary to grow, raise, and store food for local consumption. The program also promotes climate-resilient landscapes and rural economic systems, and addresses food security through religious organizations, food banks, and food pantries. Bidders must be onshore organizations based in the United States to be eligible for this opportunity. The performance of the work can take place either onsite or offsite. The agency is currently looking for proposals to determine the budget, and the resulting contract period will last for four years.
