Swale Mowing Services

The City of Santa Clara, California is seeking a contractor to provide swale mowing services to restore the flood protection purpose of its drainage swales. The agency requires the cutting of overgrown tale, cattails, and other vegetation down to four to six inches, followed by the complete removal of the cut debris. This work solves the problem of overgrown vegetation obstructing the drainage system and compromising local flood protection. The scope of work covers the inspection of all sites to ensure the removal of foreign objects prior to mowing. The contractor must perform all work onsite and repair or replace, at their own expense, any physical improvements such as irrigation systems, landscaping, fences, mailboxes, or signs damaged during activities. The agency requires the contractor to provide a 48 to 72-hour notice to the City’s Storm and Drain Supervisor and designated Maintenance Worker before starting the project. The agency limits eligibility to onshore bidders located in the United States. The contract period will run for one year, with mowing services scheduled to start after September 1, following the end of the burrowing owl breeding season, and reach completion by October 31 of each calendar year. The agency is looking for budget proposals and has not disclosed a set budget. The agency has scheduled a mandatory pre-bid meeting for June 3, 2026.
