Wildfire Mitigation Service

The Routt County government authority in Colorado is seeking a vendor to provide wildfire mitigation services along a critical ingress and egress route. This route serves as the sole entry and exit point for local residents and a high volume of recreational users. The primary objective of the project is to establish a fuel break that ensures safe evacuation for the public during a wildfire event and allows emergency responders secure access for wildfire management. The project covers a route with varied vegetative composition, including mature cottonwood, lodgepole pine, subalpine fir, spruce, and mountain shrub species such as Gamble oak and serviceberry. The selected vendor must remove seventy to ninety percent of all vegetation, including dead and down material, while prioritizing the removal of hazard trees. The scope requires providing an average of fifteen feet of canopy spacing for retained mature trees, removing slash and saplings acting as ladder fuels within driplines, and limbing trees up to eight feet or the bottom one-third of total tree height, whichever is less. All cleared material must be chipped and broadcast back onto the forest floor at an even depth of no more than three inches, and any material that cannot be reasonably chipped must be hauled offsite. The performance of this work will take place offsite under a contract period of one year. Eligible bidders must be onshore entities based in the United States. The agency is looking for proposals to determine the budget, and bidders must submit all questions no later than June 15, 2026.
