Orientation and Mobility Specialist Services

The Dougherty County School System in Albany, Georgia, requires the services of an Orientation and Mobility Specialist for its Exceptional Students' Program. The agency needs to ensure that students with visual impairments receive proper instruction to travel safely and independently within school and community environments. The selected provider must comply with all school, district, state, and federal regulations, policies, procedures, and professional ethical standards. The scope of work covers providing orientation and mobility instruction, as well as training students to use assistive devices and mobility tools such as white canes, handheld telescopes, and sensory devices. The agency requires the specialist to teach environmental awareness concepts, route planning, spatial orientation, sensory interpretation, crowd navigation, and self-advocacy skills. The specialist must also support students in managing mobility-related frustrations and maintain the physical capability to safely accompany students across stairs, hallways, outdoor areas, and community settings. Collaboration with school personnel, teachers, related service providers, and families regarding student needs is a key requirement of this role. Eligible bidders must be onshore organizations based in the United States, and all work must be performed onsite at the agency locations in Albany, Georgia. The agency is currently looking for proposals to determine the budget, and bidders must submit all questions regarding this opportunity no later than June 2, 2026.
