Prototyping Intersection Safety Systems

The District Department of Transportation in Washington, DC is seeking vendors to develop and test prototyping intersection safety systems. The agency is trying to solve the problem of intersection safety by creating systems that can predict conflicts and identify unsafe conditions. The scope of work is divided into two phases, beginning with the development and testing of differentiable prototypes in an access-controlled roadway intersection closed testbed. The agency anticipates awarding up to three contracts for the initial phase. The second phase focuses on refining the most promising prototypes and deploying them in multiple real-world intersections. These deployed systems will initially operate in an observation-only mode to collect data, predict conflicts, and identify unsafe conditions. If the agency finds convincing evidence of acceptable risk during this second phase, real-time mitigating actions may be introduced in the operational state. Bidders must be onshore United States organizations to be eligible for this opportunity. The performance of the requested work will take place offsite. The agency is currently looking for proposals to establish the budget for this project. All questions regarding this opportunity must be submitted to the agency no later than June 19, 2026.
