Transportation Planning and Design Services

The City of Somerville, Massachusetts, is seeking a vendor to provide comprehensive transportation planning and design services. The agency needs to address various municipal transit challenges through data collection, infrastructure design, and community engagement. The selected partner will support the city in managing urban mobility, optimizing curb space, and improving multi-modal transit safety. The scope of work covers long-range transportation planning studies, transportation impact assessments, and transportation demand management projects. The agency requires parking counts, curb utilization data collection analysis, parking demand models, and pedestrian, bicycle, and transit passenger counts. Additionally, the project includes GIS mapping support, walk audits, street renderings, street outreach with customer intercept surveys, and placemaking services such as public art installation. Engineering deliverables must include stamped sign and pavement markings plans for quick-build projects, stamped traffic signal plans, and transit signal priority plans. Eligible bidders must be onshore organizations based in the United States. The agency will allow the selected vendor to perform the required work offsite. The agency is currently looking for proposals to establish the budget for these services. Bidders must submit all questions regarding this opportunity no later than June 24, 2026.
