RS 485 Based Passenger Communication System Replacement or Upgrade Service

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York is seeking proposals for the replacement or upgrade of the existing RS-485-based passenger communication system on its passenger service diesel locomotives and diesel-hauled coaches. The agency needs to evaluate the feasibility, integration impacts, and cost or schedule considerations associated with this system upgrade. The primary goal is to interface with the existing communication system to maintain interoperability across the entire fleet and eliminate the need to segregate existing fleet communication systems during the retrofit. The scope of work requires replacing the ASI system rail-based transponders with GPS-based location technology for ASI. The agency is looking for solutions that minimize new in-car cable routing and offer ease of installation. Performance of all contracted work will take place offsite.
